Education starts at home with the parents so we will discuss all of the fun things that you can do with your little one. What should I be teaching my little preschooler at home? This is a common question that I often wondered when my daughter was in pre-K. After scouring the internet and successfully homeschooling my preschooler, I have come up with the best solution for pre-k homeschool curriculum.

When it comes to homeschool curriculum for preschool, the most important way for you preschooler to learn is through play. Before you can come up with a pre-K homeschool curriculum you first need to understand what your preschooler should know.

What all should a preschooler know?

In efforts to prepare your child for kindergarten, your preschooler should know:

• Letter and Sound recognition
• Colors
• Shapes
• Numbers and Counting
• Cutting and drawing
• Hold a pencil
• Recognize name
• Write name
• Sort by color, size, and shape
• Rhyme recognition
• Phone number and address.

Here are some very important non-academic skills that your preschooler should know:

The best homeschool curriculum for preschool is play-based and includes many opportunities to learn through reading, educational toys, and exploring.

The following are my top two homeschool curriculum choices that I personally recommend:

Timberdoodle

I really love timberdoodle. I get so excited every time I get their catalog in the mail. They offer all of the best educational toys and resources. You can choose the full curriculum kit or you can just pick out what you need. You can shop by age, grade, or subject. They are not just for pre-K they have amazing educational resources for babies throughout high school. They can provide an all-in-one homeschool curriculum to fit every child’s needs including stem kits, non-religious, hands-on learners, etc.

ABC Mouse

ABC mouse provides a step-by-step learning path. They advertise that it is for age 3 to 2^nd grade, however I started my daughter on ABC mouse much earlier and she was able to follow along well. My kids love ABC mouse, they do an excellent job of guiding a child through a structured learning pathway while still making it fun. My favorite part of ABC mouse was the assessments because it gave me a good idea of my daughter’s strengths and weaknesses. Once I identified the areas that need improvement I was able to direct her to all of the fun games, puzzles, and books that will focus on those areas.

The Best Homeschool Resource for Pre K

My favorite resource to supplement pre-K is from Inspirethemom.com. I absolutely love her preschool morning folder. My daughter would get so excited about working out of the morning folder every morning. Since then she has made some awesome updates to it and I am excited to use the updated version for my son.

Can you homeschool a preschooler?

The best way to homeschool a preschooler is through play. This makes creating a fun based curriculum much easier. Many parents have made the choice to homeschool their preschoolers.

Pre-K is not free for everyone and it can be very expensive. Educating a child really does start in the home and homeschooling is a perfect way to do so. If you decide to put your child in public school then homeschooling while in pre-K is a perfect way to hold on to your young child for just a little while longer. The best way to teach your preschooler is through play so as long as you and your little one are having fun, then they will be learning.

How do you homeschool pre k?

You can homeschool pre-k by planning a play-based, hands-on pre-k curriculum. Just think about the skills that your preschooler is working on and create play-based activities that will focus on each skill. Don’t be overwhelmed, the key is to make learning fun. If it is not fun for you or your child then it will not be beneficial.

I did not use an all-in-one curriculum kit because, at the time, I did not know of them so I had to piece together a curriculum myself. Searching the internet to find all of the resources to create my own curriculum was very time consuming and I also worked full-time, which is why I was so very excited when I came across Timberdoodle.
